Have a whale of a time learning about our original state mammal

Many of you plan your yearly visits to Maui Beach around the annual humpback whale migration between now and April. The shallow waters surrounding portions of Maui offer a refuge for these spectacular creatures to safely birth their calves, and subsequently one of the best whale watching areas in the world.

There’s a lot to learn about our original state mammal, so if your interest extends beyond merely the visual, you are certain to enjoy the informative lecture at the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary in Kihei.

Knowledgeable docents present informative facts about humpback anatomy and behavior and the reason for their annual journey from Alaska to Hawaii.  The free presentation is from 11 a.m. to noon every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. It is suitable for all levels of humpback enthusiasts.
